Winnipeg Celebrates International Chefs Day

How Healthy Food Works Lunch

Culinary Federation Winnipeg  celebrated International Chefs Day making a great lunch with two groups of children and showing them How Healthy Foods Works. Students prepared three healthy dishes from Nestlie’s How Healthy Foods program : Super Spinach Pancake Mix;  Ginger, Carrot Vision Soup ; and Banana Super Cooler.   The chefs helped the kids make three healthy recipes and shared in a delicious lunch.

The first group presentation consisted of grade six students and their teacher. The Chefs took over the foods classroom of a Maples Collegiate school and brought in a group of grade six students from a local school. With the help of two culinary arts students from the school, Chefs Don, Dov, Jose, Jeff and Brian worked with the students and an array of healthy foods. Chef Brian spoke to the students about vegetable nutrition and the stars of todays lunch. Chef Jeff reminded the students about some safety concerns and food hygene.  The students broke into groups prepping the lunch and each student had a chance to work individually with Chef Jeff to make their own crepe which bore their initial in turmeric batter.  It was a great morning of connecting education, eating and some fun.

A few days later Chef Dov and Chef Brian hosted a How Healthy Food Works program for a group of kids at the Jewish Learning Centre. Children, ranging in age from four to twelve, spent the afternoon learning about healthy food and the cultural and scientific aspects of healthy eating.  The afternoon concluded with a healthy lunch and some good lessons.
